Storm be Still

posted April 16th, 2020 by

Hi friends. How’s life at home? Positive, I trust. I made a painting for you. I wanted a message for the moment, but also for all time.  My reference was The Great Wave, the famous woodcut by Hokusai, and the Gospel of Matthew. Check it out.

I’ve always been amazed by the story; for a review, here it is:

Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping.  The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!” He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!” (Matthew 8:23-27)

These are difficult times. Storms all around. Keep the faith.

PS Just in case anyone wants a print as reminder, they’re offered here.

Thanks for sharing that Hyatt. I was listening to a podcast this week that is put on by an ex Navy Seal…he was going through a book written by General Patton…One of Pattons principles is to never take counsel from your fears. Much easier to do when Jesus has your back! Keep up the good work…

Holy Cow! or Holy Lord! Wow. Hyatt I just left a spiritual zoom meeting where our topic was faith as an antidote to fear. I just left the meeting as your email popped across my screen so I thought “I wonder what Hyatt is up to?” and opened it. Another coincidence that is not a coincidence (God being anonymous). Pretty cool. Thank you. Awesome painting.

Wonderful image, Hyatt! Also pleasantly surprised to notice that the nice music was by Maki. Allison hasn’t shared anything about him for a while now and I was wondering what/how he’s doing. I’ve been wearing the Adams “font T-shirt” all day today. Again, great combination of “The Wave” and Matthew 8!

Amazed!! Such a gift to watch you create…. How you can do that so splendidly is unknown to me! Clearly, the same power who stills the storm creates through you!

This passage from Mathew has long been meaningful, and the woodcut is a classic. How special seeing you transform something fearful into something powerfully positive.

Absolutely love this Hyatt – perfect gift for this season!

Morgan and Cameron loved watching you create it – Morgan asked, “can you text Mr. Hyatt and ask if can give me art lessons?”

    We love you Hyatt!

Wonderful adaptation of Hokusai’s woodcut print. Your painting mingles beautifully with Hokusai and the scripture found in Matthew! Fantastic!

Loved the play off of Hokusai wood block print and the music. Jesus is our stronghold in these times and he controls the very elements we live in. Beautiful picture. Thank you for sharing.
