Desert-Scape 1, <\/em>24×36, acrylic on canvas. Started with a rendition of a cactus, beautiful in nature, a failure on canvas, morphed into an abstract, with nothing of the former left but some of the colors. Either way, the “visible” is made by the formerly “invisible,” even by me.<\/h6>\n

Painting in the outskirts of Tucson, experiencing some \u201csuccesses,\u201d some not so much. Taking breaks in the work, we take walks. Inspiring: There’s no non-success in nature.<\/em><\/p>\n

Observations, applied with Scripture,* provide the following sketchbook insights:<\/em><\/p>\n

That which was made
\nwas made by things that were not made.<\/p>\n

That which is seen
\nBy that which is not seen.<\/p>\n

It’s everywhere apparent
\nAnd inapparent, both.<\/p>\n

I make a painting, and it is seen,
\nBut just before that, it wasn’t.<\/p>\n

Okay, there were materials . . .
\nTubes of paint, a blank canvas.<\/p>\n

But even they had their origins
\nIn realms unseen.<\/p>\n

Nor could they . . . these tubes, that canvas,
\nmake a painting by themselves . . .
\nIn any infinince of time and chance.<\/p>\n

So what makes the painting?
\nMe, of course;
\nAnd I, you’ll say, am visible.<\/p>\n

So, you make one too, I say.
\n\u201cI can’t,\u201d you’ll say . . .<\/p>\n

\u201cI don’t have what you do . . .
\nThat something unseen<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ah, and there’s the mystery . . .
\nFor I don’t see it either . . .
\nwhatever it is.<\/p>\n

All that is visible. . . by any of us, and God,
\nIs made from that which isn’t.<\/p>\n
