Anne-aversary has a nice ring, and makes it personal. Or how about Anne-adversary? That&#8217;s how it is at moments, like iron sharpening iron. Seems that happens more in a marriage than between any two men.*<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Or how about, Anne-a-mystery! Like in a mystery of a man with a maid.** I like that better.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Here we are in Oregon, trying to remember where we were and what we were doing on each anniversary&#8211;or at least each year. Read through it if you&#8217;d like, or skip to the little poem at the end.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>The List<\/h3>\n<p>1966 Marriage . . . on four days notice, next day to job in Georgia<br \/>\n1967 Back to CA, working art in LA, parents still worried<br \/>\n1968 Beginning to get serious, setting goals<br \/>\n1969 Goals reached early, life&#8217;s disappointments realized<br \/>\n1970 Searching trip in Mexico, found God (or vice-versa), new start<br \/>\n1971 First child born, new everything again<br \/>\n1972 Left Surfer Mag for Wycliffe Bible Translators, to Guatemala<br \/>\n1973 Climbed volcano (and much else)<br \/>\n1974 U. of Washington for linguistics (and much else)<br \/>\n1975 Second child born, in Guatemala, Jungle training in Mexico<br \/>\n1976 Calif. again, to work in Wycliffe home office<br \/>\n1977 Scraping by, $$ prayers answered, 2nd job (Surfer Mag)<br \/>\n1978 Third child born, larger house bought<br \/>\n1979 Raising kids, working two jobs, begin degree program<br \/>\n1980 Fourth child born, no time for anniversaries<br \/>\n1981 Life continues<br \/>\n1982 And continues<br \/>\n1983 Still continues<br \/>\n1984 Transfered to Papua New Guinea, all six of us<br \/>\n1985 Discovering another world, co-wrote book<br \/>\n1986 Transfered to Texas, VP of Wycliffe Intl<br \/>\n1987 Continuing education for both of us<br \/>\n1988 Anne Dir. of Women&#8217;s Ministries, my traveling much<br \/>\n1989 Life continues<br \/>\n1990 And continues<br \/>\n1991 Anne receives BA, U of Texas, discovers printmaking<br \/>\n1992 Child adopted, I become President WBT USA, back to CA<br \/>\n1993 Children growing, in their turn graduating, life continues<br \/>\n1994 And continues<br \/>\n1995 MA finally completed (Leadership)<br \/>\n1996 30th anniversary trip: Switzerland<br \/>\n1997 Painting spirit hits, fired as President, moved to Canada<br \/>\n1998 Org. fund raising, Student Ministries, painting<br \/>\n1999 Living<br \/>\n2000 Children leaving home, college, marrying<br \/>\n2001 Return to California, still with Wycliffe<br \/>\n2002 Traveling, writing, painting<br \/>\n2003 Painting, printmaking, at office less<br \/>\n2004 Resigned from WBT, begin making a living as artists<br \/>\n2005 Life of faith begins again, first grandchildren born<br \/>\n2006 40th anniversary trip: back to Guatemala<br \/>\n2007 Anniversary trip to Santa Fe, NM for galleries<br \/>\n2008 Living and praying and working<br \/>\n2009 Living (don&#8217;t remember what else)<br \/>\n2010 More not remembering<br \/>\n2011 Traveling, almost monthly, visiting family scattered about<br \/>\n2012 Art-making anniversary trip to Oregon (1st annual?)<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s it to date, much glossed, much left out, but it gives the idea. A marriage adds power to a life, gives it value, not to mention the sharing, which makes everything more meaningful.\u00a0And all the more the longer it goes.<\/p>\n<h3>The Poem<\/h3>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Here&#8217;s a little poem I just came across in a 2007 sketchbook<\/em><\/span>&#8212;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>With Anne and God, that&#8217;s all I need . . .<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> Another trinity, really, we three.<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> God knew a man\u00a0without\u00a0a woman\u00a0would be incomplete<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> And I knew without Him I am,<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> So, there we are, the three of us,<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> Man, Woman, God.<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> It&#8217;s all I need to succeed.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>____________________________<br \/>\nCelebrating in Toledo, Oregon.<br \/>\n*Proverbs 27:17 &#8220;As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.&#8221;<br \/>\n**Proverbs 30:18-19 &#8220;Among the things too wonderful for me, best is the way of a man with a maid.&#8221; (My paraphrase)<\/p>\n<p>Coming Saturday:<em>\u00a0Love, the greatest power in the universe. <\/em>A talk.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We met at a drug store fountain, I was cook, she knew the dishwasher.
