Following on from the story about Jane<\/em> last time, here’s a page\u00a0from my\u00a0journal\/sketchbook, written earlier. It might be for you\u00a0too.<\/p>\n

The advice I gave Jonathan, the young man that came for life counsel for his un-begun career in art\u2014<\/span><\/p>\n

His sketchbooks full of drawings showing:<\/span>
\n (1) that he can do it<\/span>
\n (2) that he is doing it<\/span>
\n (3) that’s there’s nothing finished enough to present formally.<\/span><\/p>\n

After long listening and talking about many things
\nI challenged him to take four to six months
\nto prepare his resume (actually portfolio)
\nto present to a potential employer for a job.<\/span><\/p>\n

Part of this would be to interview some prospective employer
\nfor what he (or the industry) wants to see in an applicant.<\/span><\/p>\n

Who knows if he’ll do it?<\/span>
\n He’s young, and part procrastinator.<\/span>
\n But he’s recently in love.<\/span>
\n (When he’d asked me when I first \u201cfound myself\u201d
\nI told him it was when I got married.)<\/span><\/p>\n

But I’m\u00a0thinking now, what with my (ongoing) juncture,
\nthat I might give myself the same advice:<\/span><\/p>\n

Take between now and New Year’s, or September 1
\n[my personal New Year’s]<\/span>
\n and propose (to myself) what I’m going to do\/not do<\/span>
\n for this next period, career, epoch, whatever.
\nThis, looking at realities, external and internal,<\/span>
\nand the contribution I can make and want to make
\n<\/span>under God.<\/span><\/p>\n

That was it, a page from the journal, shared with you . . . for what you might get out of it too. Take the four to six months, have a date in mind, and set aside some time daily\u00a0to think about it. Who knows, it could change your life.<\/p>\n
