Vernon-and-Ali

At a healthier moment, Vernon with Allison.
(Below) How he looks today.

Today we’re breaking from the ongoing saga of my parents’ story for a news-flash on another member of our family. It’s our son-in-law Vernon, Allison’s husband. He’s currently the center of our concerns, though he knows nothing about it.

Friday evening police showed up at Allison’s door in San Clemente. There’d been an accident and she should get to the hospital as soon as possible.

Even now it’s taking time to get the details. Apparently a pickup truck turned into the road never seeing Vernon cruising home on his Vespa. There was never a moment to break or swerve. Many people saw it, many immediately punching in 911. Paramedics were there within minutes. Some onlookers thought it was already too late.

By the time we got to the hospital a group of what was to become a team of five doctors was assembling. The neurologist was first, brain trauma being a major concern. As was pulmonary; he wasn’t breathing when they brought him in. Then there were all the broken bones, the jaw, the pelvis, the femur. Plastic surgery would be needed for the face.

We were there for hours. The team of doctors worked till 5:00 in the morning.

Vernon is in a coma, part natural, part induced, and will be for a week or longer. The hospital stay will be long, the rehab longer. Even now we’re in a precarious period what with the brain trauma.

So many people have come to the rescue. The nameless paramedics, with their quick action, saved his life. The doctors, we’re told, are among the best in the land. Many, many are gathering around Allison, supporting her.

My reading the following morning was in Mark. Jesus was interrupted in his teaching to come heal the daughter of one Jarius. On the way, another sufferer touched the hem of his clothes, hoping for a healing. She got it. He told her that her faith had done it. But by the delay, the daughter of Jarius had died. But then Jesus reversed that too.

The take away for me at the moment is how it was the faith of the one that effected the healing, and yet there was a complete lack of faith on the part of the other, already dead. But others believed.

And that’s where we are.

Believing.

OHHH I just have a lump in my throat and feel sick looking at him, Hyatt……in this picture. He and oh, his beautiful wife, his family, and all of you… I am standing in firm faith that the Lord is hearing, healing, and working on his behalf!!!!!! That He is healing his broken bones and mending the tissues. That He is guiding all the doctors and nurses, giving them discernment, courage, wisdom, understanding, and compassion. I am trusting along side of all of you. Thank you for sharing so we know who, how and what to pray for. Thank you. “Vernon, we are sending you loads of love, strength, faith and prayers…. For your family too. Thank you Lord for your presence and your promises. In Jesus’s strong name.” Love Lisa and Kevin

Though we didn’t see the accident, we drove by moments later. El Camino Real was closed, and as we diverted via the alley, we could see a body on the street surrounded by a crowd of medics, police and onlookers. We stopped and prayed, not knowing until the following morning that it was Vernon, our next-door-neighbor. Our hearts are hurting for Allison and we’re joining with the multitude of those praying and believing by faith for a miraculous healing.

I’m writing this to give you hope because I know what it is like to have a family member suffer a sever brain trama. My Brother Bryan Darling technically died on May 2, 1999 while racing his off shore powerboat from Dana point to the San Clemente pier. He was placed in an induced Acoma immediately upon his arrival to Mission Hospital. He had a shunt placed in his brain to release the pressure and his body looked like a sumo wrestler because of ademic pressure in his body. Miracles do happen because after one month he was taken off of ventilation and he breathed on his own and he went into recovery it’s now been 15 years later of me being so thankful to the doctors & nurses at Mission Hospital who took care of my brother!

    Dear Moore family,

My heart is burdened for you all during these difficult days. I’ve been in a situation similar to Vernon’s. Through that experience Christ taught me how, when we are suffering like Vernon is now, those who love us also suffer with us because they love us. May your hearts be drawn toward the God of all comfort in every large and small thing.

As you might recall, six years ago I flipped a Harley. I received triage at the scene for over an hour before the paramedics were able to reach us and that was followed by being put back together for 7 hours in the ER.

However, God was there before the crash was over. He guided my 30 foot long solo Peter Pan down a very narrow flight path to a spot where I landed head first. I later learned that this was the only trajectory and only spot that were survivable.

God has continued to open my eyes and reveal His presence in miraculous ways since that day. Perhaps the most life-altering act of grace was that He redeemed my own TBI (traumatic brain injury) by transforming it into a means of profoundly deepening my relationship with Him. Based on that, I pray that God’s redemptive power to be demonstrated in any TBI related issues for Vernon.

I also pray that Vernon and all those who love him will find peace and comfort in knowing God cares more than is humanly possible. I know He was guiding everything as it was happening and faithfully continues to do so today. I’m also confident that even before the accident was over Christ was already washing Vernon, Allison and all with Himself, The Living Water.

    God be with you all,
    Stanley

We were out of town…visiting friends, etc…..Can’t believe we just related to them what happened to our 50-60 year old dear friend in AK…as we were telling our friends on Saturday. Today, he is his own vibrant self, but about 13 years ago, riding his motorcycle on the four-hour trip home from Anchorage, he crashed into a telephone pole about three miles from our town…the pole was crumbled in two pieces, electricity in the area was out for many hours…..keep in mind we had one small clinic that belonged to our mission….waiting for airlift back into Anchorage…good local EMT, but no facilities……within two or three months we were all rejoicing that he could actually walk..talk….such a great witness he was, and praying for that to be for Vernon…thank you for sharing this and allowing us to share your burden with you.
    from both of us….prayers
